Education for Tribal Children

Arrupe High School

LITDS established Arrupe High School with a vision to provide quality and accessible education to tribal children living in remote and underserved areas. Many tribal families faced significant barriers to education, including poverty, lack of nearby schools, inadequate learning facilities, and limited opportunities for academic growth. Recognizing education as a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering communities, LITDS started Arrupe High School to ensure that tribal children receive not only academic instruction but also holistic development. The school provides a nurturing environment where students can develop knowledge, skills, values, leadership qualities, and confidence to build a better future.

Why This Intervention?

LITDS established Arrupe High School to provide quality education to tribal children who often face barriers such as poverty, remote locations, and limited access to educational opportunities. The school aims to empower students with knowledge, skills, values, and confidence, helping them build a brighter future and become active contributors to their communities.

HOSTELS FOR TRIBAL CHILDREN

Loyola Hostels for Tribal Boys & Girls

In the beginning, Fr Balaswamy, who was the Parish Priest and Director, worked with vigour to bring many tribes and non-tribes to the Catholic Church. As a result, there is a small chapel built in Mallampeta for the non-tribes. He, along with Frs Papaiah, Irudayam, et al, were able to travel to Kunavaram, VR Puram, Bhadrachalam, Nellipaka, Basavagu, and Lakshmipuram to offer masses for the faithful. LITDS formed various programmes like Education, Health, and Empowerment. In the Education field, it got divided into various activities like Home for the Tribal Children, Summer School, Satellite and Single Teacher School.

Why This Intervention?

Many tribal children in remote villages had limited or no access to quality education due to poverty, geographical isolation, lack of schools, and inadequate educational facilities. LITDS introduced educational initiatives such as Tribal Children's Homes, Summer Schools, Satellite Schools, and Single Teacher Schools to ensure that every child had an opportunity to learn and build a better future.

Outcomes

  • ✓ Increased access to education in remote tribal villages.
  • ✓ Reduced dropout rates and child labor.
